You are invited to the Southeastern Kentucky Bee School on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Whitley County High School (350 Blvd. of Champions, Williamsburg, KY 40769). Bee School is for everyone interested in beekeeping, with beginner classes for new beekeepers who have yet to acquire bees, and advanced topics for those who have been keeping bees for many years. All are welcome to attend. Attendees may pre-register or register at the door on the day of the event. Lunch is included. See below for registration details.
This year, we are excited to have Dr. Clarence Collison as our key-note speaker and presenter. Dr. Collision is an experienced beekeeper, researcher and columnist for Bee Culture Magazine. Dr. Collison has been a beekeeper for 40 years. As the retired Entomology Department Head at Mississippi State University, he has done extensive research on apiculture topics such as nectar secretion, pollination and varroa mite distribution. Finally, Dr. Collision was the chair of the Eastern Apicultural Society committee that developed the Master Beekeeper Exams.
Join us on February 2 as Dr. Collision addresses questions affecting Kentucky area beekeepers, such as:
- Why do the hives from one beekeeper have 5-6+ supers of honey in July and another beekeeper struggles to produce any honey at all?
- Why do some beekeepers lose 50-70% of their hives each year, while others lose almost none?
- What are the best practices for beekeepers to support healthy, productive bees?
Opening Session begins at 9:00 am. Break-out classes begin at 10:00 am and there will be multiple classes to choose from in each session.
A full speaker/class agenda will be published shortly. The brochure can be downloaded here.
