Beekeeping Workshop to be Held in Clay County on August 25, 2018

By: Joel Gonia

The organizers of the recent Red Bird Beekeeping Seminar will be hosting a series of beekeeping workshops / field days in the Beverly and Manchester areas each month through December to gauge the level of interest and local leadership. These workshops will provide a cursory review of terms, equipment, opportunities and challenges geared toward the beginner and the intermediate beekeeper.

The first workshop will be held on August 25 at the EXCEL Building (86 Muddy Gap Rd, Manchester, KY 40962). The workshop will consist of two sessions – a beginner session in the morning (9:00 – 11:00) and an intermediate session in the afternoon (12:00 – 2:00).

The beginner session will take place in a classroom environment and will be geared towards people who either do not have bees yet or have just gotten bees. Participants in the beginner session will not need any protective gear or other beekeeping equipment.

The intermediate session will be hands-on at a bee farm conveniently located nearby. The intermediate session will be geared towards beekeepers who have existing colonies. Participants in the intermediate session will need to bring their own protective clothing and tools to the workshops.

Registration is required because lunch will be provided. Please contact Jeff Casada (606-598-2789) or Joel Gonia with HoneyBear Farms (502-235-0727) for more information or to sign up for the workshop.
